One of the major ongoing service projects of The Order of the
Arrow is to promote camping among youth and adult members of the Boy Scouts of
America. A number of years ago, Robin Armistead (Eagle, Troop 516) created
a guide to places to camp and hike in Tennessee for the Wa-Hi-Nasa Lodge of the
OA. That guide has been updated and is available as a PDF file from the
Wa-Hi-Nasa website.
Although it's a large document (68 pages), it is a wonderful resource for day
hikes, weekend campouts, backpacking, canoeing, and longer treks. It
contains basic information, maps, descriptions of facilities, suggested
activities, and contact information for 24 different places in Tennessee.
Try downloading and printing a copy to give your Patrol Leaders' Council for
their fall planning session.
